About the film
Finding his moment, Aussie actor Jason Clarke is Edward "Ted" Kennedy in the biopic drama Chappaquiddick.
It’s the summer of 1969 and the Senator is driving his companion, Mary Jo Kopechne, a former aide to the senator’s brother Robert, home after a get together at a beach cottage. The car goes off a bridge and plunges into water. Ted flees and leaves Mary (Kate Mara) in the car. No call for help or rescue attempt was made.
A fatal car crash, a shameful coverup and a crisis of conscious disables the moral compass of America’s foremost political dynasty – just for a little while. The Kennedy dynasty had lost three heirs apparent by 1969, leaving Ted the family’s last hope to carry their name into the upper echelons of US politics.
