About the Event

Director, author and Exhibition on Screen founder Phil Grabsky is joining us for a special screening of our 2018 Exhibition on Screen season on May 5 at Eastend.

Phil Grabsky is an award-winning documentary film-maker. His film career has spanned over 25 years, he regularly lectures and gives masterclasses, has written four history books, including The Great Artists – co-authored with Tim Marlow – and the best-seller The Great Commanders. Phil's focus now is Exhibition on Screen.

The Guardian newspaper said of it ‘Just occasionally something will crop up that restores your faith in humanity’s future. Exhibition on Screen is a global phenomenon’.

A Bigger Picture 2012 & 82 Portraits and One Still Life 2016

Widely considered Britain’s most popular artist, David Hockney is a global sensation with exhibitions in London, New York, Paris and beyond, attracting millions of visitors worldwide.

Now entering his 9th decade, Hockney shows absolutely no evidence of slowing down or losing his trademark boldness.

This intimate, revealing film focuses on this later work – essentially two major (and hugely successful) shows held in 2012 and 2016 at the Royal Academy of Art in London.

Director Phil Grabsky secured privileged access to the shows and has crafted a film that, while simple in structure, is multi-layered in offering a wonderful exploration of this master of creativity.
