BFF26 Everybody to Kenmure Street
BFF26 Everybody to Kenmure Street
On May 13, 2021, on the first day of Eid-al-Fitr, a Home Office immigration raid targeted a diverse residential street in Pollokshields, Glasgow, ripping two local men away from their homes and loading them into a van. Within minutes, word spread fast and more than 2,000 ordinary people had abandoned their daily routines to converge on Kenmure Street, forming a human barrier so the van couldn’t leave, with one protestor (reenacted by Emma Thompson) throwing her body under the van and hugging the axle.
With no plan but to bear witness and defend what was morally right, the eight-hour standoff transformed into a powerful act of solidarity, showcasing the strength of community in the face of forces that would drive them apart.
“An exceptional documentary, both in the story it tells and in the way it tells it.” – New York Times
