About the Event

Celebrate Bastille Day with one of the most beloved French films of all time — a whimsical cinematic treasure returning to the big screen for its 25th anniversary.

Celebrate French culture, cinema and joie de vivre with a special Bastille Day presentation of the enchanting modern classic Amélie. Upon arrival, guests will be welcomed with festive French wines, while the café bar will be serving French-inspired cocktails to complete the evening.

Released in 2001, Amélie (Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain) became an international sensation thanks to its whimsical storytelling, dazzling Parisian imagery and unforgettable score by Yann Tiersen. Directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and starring Audrey Tautou, the film follows a shy young woman who quietly transforms the lives of those around her while searching for love herself.

Widely celebrated as one of the most charming and visually distinctive films of the 21st century, Amélie received five Academy Award nominations, including Best Foreign Language Film and Best Original Screenplay, and went on to win Best Original Screenplay at the BAFTA Awards. The film also won major honours at the European Film Awards, including Best Film and Best Director, along with dozens of international critics’ prizes and audience awards.

Critics and audiences alike embraced its magical tone and inventive style, with many praising its warmth and optimism. As one review famously put it, the film is “a charming fantasy about love and kindness in modern Paris.”

A quarter-century after its release, Amélie remains a cultural touchstone — a film that captured the romance of Paris and reminded audiences around the world of the joy found in life’s smallest moments.

Join us this Bastille Day for a celebratory big-screen experience at Palace Nova Cinemas Eastend — raise a glass of French wine, sip a cocktail, and fall in love with Amélie all over again.

Amelie Poulain (Audrey Tautou) lives in Paris, and in a world of her own. Introverted, but with a very extroverted imagination, Amelie is obsessed with the small pleasures of life and believes she can twist the fate of others by affecting the slightest changes in their environment. So she sets out to give the lonely and unloved a new lease of life, taking some time to enjoy skimming stones and planning to win the heart of Nino (Mathieu Kassovitz).
