AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE

Inspired by true events that took place in the Catalan Pyrenees and based on the book ‘Viento salvaje’ by Jordi Cruz, Balandrau, Where the Fierce Wind Blew is a riveting dramatic thriller about a real-life tragedy that impacted the whole country.

On 30 December 2000, on a clear, sunny day, a group of friends begin their ascent of Balandrau, a mountain of barely 2,500 metres in the Catalan Pyrenees. The mountaineers enjoy the sunny skies accompanying them until suddenly, in a matter of minutes, everything takes a dramatic turn for the worse. An unforeseen blizzard unleashes the worst storm in the history of the Pyrenees, southern Europe’s majestic mountain range. As visibility vanishes, the wind and snow whip around them in an icy, disorienting storm, and soon survival becomes a desperate fight against the elements.

The directorial feature debut of Fernando Trullols, featuring breathtaking cinematography and a screenplay by Danielle Schleif (Mediterraneo: The Law of the Sea), this survival tale and story of human resilience highlights the contrasting beauty and danger of the mountains.

"Epic and emotional.”- eCartelera
